Alex? A picky eater?

Alex has never, never been a picky eater. Never.
When we changed to the canned food, EN  and now Halo, he ran to the food bowl. He even put up with me adding Pepto to calm his stomach. Today is the first day he has eaten some...then walked away.  I left it down for a while, added more water. He slurped some of the liquid, but did not really eat much. Has he finally smelled the meds?  I eventually dumped that and put down some homemade Alex stew with no meds. Ground turkey, carrots, green beans, lots of broth. He picked at that, ate some leftover pork and beans, then finally finished the stew. Normal meal, 3 minutes tops. This one, over an hour.

He asked for a chew half hour later, so I gave it to him. He is moving a bit slow today.

Saturday was the first time I was sure he had thrown up two times in one day, 6 hours apart. I upped him to one of the cerenia pills.

Today has been ok holding down, just eating slow.
Napping now. Perhaps we both should, but my mind goes to my holiday to do list....

View from my pillow

Alex has not really cuddled for the first eight years. Now, he presses into my back or front every morning before we meet the day.
We don't bounce out of bed as quickly as we used to, but that is not a bad thing.

December - 2012

Met Jeanne of Color Pots at NKY Craft Affair Thankgiving weekend. I was so impressed with her work, I had her make a plate of Alex. This is not the best photo of the combo, but it is the one Kit managed to get into... so everyone in the picture!

Then we have a wistful Alex. Wearing the holiday hat, no food in site. He is sure I have made a greivous error!

Sleepy morning for Alex

I woke up earlier than usual this morning. Have been watching the news for about 45 minutes from bed.  Why am I still sitting in bed? Well, Alex has snuggled himself up to me and I cannot find  it in me to move or leave.
It was the week before Thanksgiving he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Hard to believe that was over a month ago.
Alex still has good appetite and good spirits. He cuddles now, something here rarely did before. So I let him. I rarely move until he is ready, even if it makes me late.
Thankful that I can write this on my phone, so I don't have to...now, about that shower...

Alex had a play date with Sadie, one of his "besties" on Saturday.
She kept him company while Sadie's person and I went to the craft fair. Found some fun stuff!
So did the fur-kids. Came home to cat food on the kitchen floor and not so nice and dry on the living room floor. Yuk!!

Funniest part?  they had matching hair cuts. Shaved belly and IV-poodle-paw.
I think they both enjoyed the day!

Kit watches Alex sleep

After several hours of play with Sadie, Alex is quite tired.
Kit watches over him. Kit usually rests during evening hours about 2-3 feet from Alex, but one has to wonder  (as I watch a PBS show on "Animal Odd Couples") if he understands.

Alex was diagnosed about ten days ago with stomach cancer.  I am not sure how long Alex will be with us, but I know I will not be the only friend missing him.

Thankgiving 2012, warm and sunny!

Thanks, Brooke for having us at your Mom's!

Alex was in/otu of the pond MANY times!!

He was so excited, he barely paused.

Yes, he knows how to pose for the camera! Note the wet coat and decorative leaves.
We did not have the camera out on the second trip, when little black spot LuLu decided to join the party.  First time she had met Alex, but she was kind.   :)

Took Alex and Kit to the vet today.

Kit's regular check up and shots... found fleas! First time for him, as he never goes outside. Dr Collette says fleas are good at finding a way in. None on Alex, who does get regular Frontline.  All Kit's numbers looking good!   Reminder, we brought Kit home from SPCA in 2001. Estimated him at one year old at that time.

Alex has been losing weight, down to 52.7 today.  He eats well, functionally same as always... but is regurgitating at least once a week in the middle of the night. I had lowered his dinner quantity, hopefully to not cause overfill.  His back is getting pretty bony.

Dr did not feel anything, and with the light weight, one can feel a lot!  Brought home some EN canned food for a couple of days while we try to see what is causing the toss up.  Left them with blood and such for tests, hopefully to shed a light.

More to follow...

All clean and mostly dry :)

We don't have a dryer, but he puts up with the brushing well. :)
Alex was 8 in March. Seeing a lot of gray this time. He is still an
agreeable lad, good to his cat and me.

Have a great Independence Day!! Happy Birthday, America!

Alex's summer bath

Independence Day here! Thank you to all who saw ahead into the future and brought us to this place and time and land that is open and ready for just about anything!

Alex's annual bath today. It was just too perfect, I needed one, he needed one and even the hose water is only just cool, not cold. :)  Amazing how skinny he looks without all that hair bushing about.

Alex gets a casual brush out and poses for the first day of spring!

 Going up to 86 today!

I grew up in Michigan, not sure I would even know how to turn the air on in March!

Alex turned 8 a couple of weeks ago. He is still full of life, although moving a bit tired this morning.  I think he does not like the heat and he is not sure why I am home, messing with his nap time! LOL

Alex got a back yard brushing this morning. He  really needs a full blow out, but this will do for now.  Maybe more later.

Have  a great spring!!

Alex and Fly spend some quality spring time

Yes, one more smelly Tervuren woman has joined Alex on what I am starting to call "Hillside Hedonism."

We promote Safe Sex and only Planned Puppies. :)

This is Fly, owned by Andrea Debbins of MN. This girl has more frequent travel miles than I do! LOL
She is a cuddle-bug and we all had fun!

Thanks, Fly, for joining us!

First vacation Alex has missed in years!

During January, I visited Placenca, Belize with my cousin and her family. It has been a long time since I have had adult vacation with no pets. Course, there was a GSD there, Rocky. She helped us all over the canine withdrawal.
