A Picture from my PCS Vision Camera

ALEX'S LINKS

Visit this site to see Alex's canine friends in their own place. Some day, we will figure out how to put this on the sidebar so it is not lost in the Archive. Meanwhile, enjoy!
Getting warmer every day! Better enjoy the snow NOW!

White Christmas in Cincinnati

Some folks are digging out from our record snow this week. Some are not. I tell folks we live on a hill, kind of like the inside of a spoon when there is snow and ice. Can't get anywhere without going up. So true, and so slippery.
Alex is finally able to enjoy the snow from Wednesday again! It has been pretty cold out. OK, truth is, he enjoyed it, I just could not get any pictures.
This morning, we walked down the road to the right behind Alex. This leads to a dead end on the hillside where we sometimes let the dogs play and run. Alex was in sucha hurry this morning he litterally pulled me all the way DOWN. Good thing we didn't ge a picture of that!

Snow is too hard on back porch to dig into today. Maybe later?

Dog's Night Before Christmas

Dog's Night Before Christmas
Author Unknown
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
My dogs were nestled, all snug in "MY" bed,
While visions of chewie toys danced in their heads.
I in my sweat pants and Dad in his sweater,
Had just settled down to read the Great Dog Reporter,
When up on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter!
Off to the window I flew in a flash,
Tore open the shutter and threw up the sash.
The moon on the crest of the new fallen snow
Gave a luster of midday to the objects below.
And what to my wondering eyes did appear
but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little old driver so lively and quick
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
With a sputter of ashes -- a flurry of soot,
He slid down the chimney with all of his loot.
My Dogs stood there so regal and proud,
Guarding their home with barks oh so loud.
St. Nick showed no fear and called them by name,
He knew in his heart they were gentle and tame.
He brought out his list, checking it twice.
"Well, my beauties, all year you've been very nice.
I have in my bag toys and much more,
Just tell me what you pups really long for."
My dogs talked to each other -- much to my surprise
and turned to Santa with tears in their eyes,
"We have chewies and balls and ropes to be tugged,
We are pampered and coddled and petted and hugged.
But for Christmas, dear Santa, we have but one care,
that all dogs be loved as much as we are.
We want no dog beaten, whipped or chained,
No dog abandoned, abused or maimed.
We want all dogs, no matter what size,
to see love reflected in their master's eyes."
St. Nick stopped for a moment to gather his wits,
"I have nothing to stop humans from being such twits."
All dogs are so beautiful and are such a treasure,
Living only to be loved and give humans pleasure.
This lesson I will try to teach
Then maybe your wish will be within my reach."
St. Nick leaned over and kissed each beautiful head.
"Now you gentle giants, go off to bed.
Think good thoughts and dream good dreams
Of running and jumping and playing in streams."
St. Nick turned to me, his face wet with tears.
"Be proud of your babies, they are such dears."
In an instant St. Nick disappeared in a poof,
And I heard him chuckle as he ran on the roof.
He jumped in his sleigh and to his team gave a whistle,
and off he flew like the down on a thistle.
And I heard him exclaim as they drove out of sight,

"Merry Christmas to All and To All Dogs a Good Life!"

Crown Classic Dog Shows, Cleveland 2004

We drove up Friday night to Cleveland and my second dog show. We were busy all the rest of the weekend. I had to sleep when I could. Guarding the hotel room was tough work! I hope nobody comes to the door now!

We were entered in the 9-12 month puppy class of Tervuren Saturday and Sunday morning. Here is Mary Lynn, putting me through my paces. And the judge said, "line them up over here."
doing that "gait" ...
and more...
Attention! Attention! Attention! My favorite thing!
I managed to catch a nap or two in between shopping and shows.
Playtime! Alex on left, Zues on right.
Saturday night we went to Mary Lynn's house and Alex got to play with his brothers - older brother Thor and littermate Zues! What fun! Zues and Alex were drenched with puppy saliva by the time we left.

Zues and Thor! Long time no see!
Where is Santa? on break? Can he do that?
Merry Christmas! I was so glad to be home Sunday night! Missed Carlos and all my friends! Gregor and Finn came over to welcome us home - WonderFUL!

Santa is in town and Saturday at the park

Hi, Santa!!
We hit 3 pet stores, 2 Santas, and 2 Kroger stores this afternoon. We have bones and treats and a luminated dear to show for it! Alex is tired, but making the most of the bones tonight.
Alex at rest, 9 months old this week and about 49 pounds. Once we all have breakfast and the dogs a nap while I clean up, we will go get our picture taken with Santa! That time of year!

What a view! That is Kentucky over the hill and across the river.
Morning at the park - YAHOOO!! Terv tail in motion!!
32 degrees out, feels like 22 to the weatherman, but not the dogs!

Wednesday, my neighbor friend went Christmas shopping all day in Brown County Indiana. That left me without someone to sponsor my afternoon potty break. So, I got to go to work with Pat! Big disappointment when I had to stay in the car - BAH! About 10, she took me to the local vet/boarding clinic where I had stayed before each puppy class. I got to see Joey and all the other folks that work there. I had not visited in 3-4 months. I was real excited when Pat came back for me, though. I jumped up on the glass window when I saw her and then ran to her as soon as Joey let me go. I like to visit, but I LOVE to go home!

Finally, a good shot of Alex's best (in-house) play buddy - Kit. I know he misses running with Gregor, the deerhound, but soon - soon.
Vet check this afternoon. After a follow up radiograph, Dr Muench says Alex is healing fine from his toe jamming. He must be getting too many treats or the minimum excercise is affecting him, he weighed 49.5 lbs today. I am glad the Dr says he can run again. We will be a little careful, though. At least until after the December show. Are we really ready for December???

Per Thomsen

I would like to take time out from Alex to introduce my great-nephew, Per. He and his family are in need of your prayers and thoughts. Per has Rhabdomyosarcoma and must go through a long regiman of chemotherapy. Please keep him and my neice Kristen and their family in your prayers!

Big brother, Carlos, is always first in line for food and attention.

Happy Thanksgiving! 2004

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!
I know my person, Pat, is thankful for all of us here with her. Be sure to give your thanks today and every day. It really does make you feel better!

It is a bit cool, but a beautiful day in Cincinnati. We will go have dinner with friends soon. I can't wait to see all the kids.

Alex, up close!
I signed Alex up today for the Cleveland Classic in December. It will be fun to see Mary Lynn, his breeder, again. Of course, Alex would probably say he is looking forward to seeing his litter mate, who will also be there! After watching him play with his long distance relatives in Mississippi, I am excited, too!

Sunday, November 21, 2004

Here is Alex in a natural stand this weekend. Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner and Alex is almost 9 months old!

Wednesday, November 17, 2004

Hard to believe it is the middle of November! We wake with frost and if we are lucky get to a beautiful day like last Sunday. Sun and just enough breeze to blow the leaves around. Ahh, what a day! The boys had fun outside and I, well, let's just say that daylight savings time pushes a lot of outside (and inside stuff) to the weekend. The yard was raked, nails were trimmed and all furs were brushed. What a full day!

Thursday, November 11, 2004

It is rainy and dark tonight, 46 degrees and feeling colder. Seems like it has been dark all day. Alex is chipper as ever, though. His toe is feeling better and he ready to play, but not yet allowed.

Sunday, November 07, 2004

8 months old, 48 lbs

Alex is now 8 months old! Easy to forget - he is such a pup! Here he is next to Carlos tonight - the old man is seven and a half.

Alex's toe is still swollen, so back to the vet tomorrow. We did lots outside today, putting away summer furniture and hoses and all. They are ready for bed and I think I am, too. Tomorrow IS another day!

Sunday, October 31, 2004

Happy Halloween! We borrowed a camera today, as our is still in "the shop." Alex's toe is still / again swollen, so he is laying low today. A string of naps! It was a great day, weather-wise. Several of those naps were taken outside.

Pictures from Judy and Mississippi Tervs

Judy's shots of Alex and the rest, from our TN/MS visit October 9-11.
What a beautiful extended family!
Clark, Diana (mom), Percy, Max (father), Alex with bandana - same breed match as Diana, 4 years later.

Saturday, October 23, 2004

Alex is feeling and moving much better today! We went to the park, but only the three of us (Alex, Carlos, myself). I think it is a bit soon to toss and tumble with Gregor and race after Finn and sticks. The dogs did investigate the woods - it was overcast and I am sure smells from the morning deer were lingering.

Alex went with me to run errands today, including a stop at a local pet store. The folks all said HELLO and how cute his face is - and it is!

I saw "The King and I" tonight with friends. When I got home, Alex was so excited to be outside, he jumped up the rock wall - a first in my knowledge - and then back down it again! Guess his back paw is better even than I thought!

Thursday, October 21, 2004

Alex jammed his toe at the park on Sunday with Gregor, Carlos and Finn. He was limping pretty good and we did visit the vet on Monday. He is improving quickly now!

The digital camera is still down, so pictures will just have to wait.

Have a great week!

Clark, Alex and Diana at the Showcase, held by Mary Beth, Pat, and Bill. Photos by Judy!
It was a rainy, drizzly day at the St Jude Showcase of Dogs. This is Alex and I in our final showing for BOB on Saturday.
We got "Best of Opposite (Sex)".
The girl behind us won the Best of Breed that day.
