A warm Thanksgiving!

 

It was a wonderfully warm Thanksgiving weekend this year! I worked much of it, but Alex and I spent as much time outside as that schedule allowed. Here he is, watching me from the side yard while I did some cleaning of the flower beds in the front yard. It was in the mid-60's all each day.

This is a great starter book to make sure your pup is ready for the rest of his training!

I have read his books and attended two multi-day seminars since 2001. This guy knows his stuff and has great stories to tell. Enjoy!

Ian Dunbar Seminar, Orlando Nov 2006

 

I just got back from a four day Ian Dunbar pet dog training seminar in Orlando. I went with two freinds, one a trainer and the other a kennel owner. We had great fun and learned a lot!
Alex's will have so much fun with this stuff!! 

Trip to and from Memphis also meant SHEEP!

 
 
 
 

As long as we were driving through Elizabethtown, we stopped at Libbye's to practice Alex with the sheep. Libbye worked him on the way down (barking is getting progressively less - good news!) and on the way back, we planned to just wander calmly among the sheep.

Bonus for Alex: We found Kristina, Holly and Edda (BSD) there and he got to really put his flirting genes into practice! What a run Edda gave him! It was three -four times around the car area and he was in her DUST! She finally let him catch up to her. Such fun to watch!

Our trip to Memphis is about friends and unofficial family with a dog show thrown in. That is good, since there were no points to be had this year. Saturday, Alex insisted on flirting with the only bitch in the ring and completely forgot why we were there. Guess he had his own agenda! ;-)
We always enjoy visiting with our old neighbors and they are wonderful to Alex and I. Another friend, Venice, went with us this year. The long drive was much more fun and we had a great time! 

Tall Stacks Music Festival

After a good morning run in the park, Alex took a nap and we went down to the Ohio River to celebrate the Tall Stacks Festival. Beautiful day - only problem is the river was high and running so fast that none of the boats went out this morning. We had our luncheon cruise at the dock - but the lunch was GRAND!
The night before, we took a Mardi Gras dinner cruise on the Natchez. Great food and we ran into some good friends. What more can one ask?

Alex qualifies for Herding Instinct Certificate, Judge Sharol Hathaway

 

Alex was still quite riled by the sheep, but he passed his Herding Instint Certificate Saturday.

By the time he worked with the sheep twice Saturday and then Sunday, he was getting much more calm.

He finally calmed down. Libbye says he will be fine next week for the herding instinct test.

Alex and I went to Lebabon Indiana this weekend. He took Best of Breed under Judge Paul Thomann and finished his Rally Novice title under Judge Randy Wojcik. What a weekend!!!

To be real honest, there were only two Tervs entered on Sunday, but that did not cut down on our excitement to win and enter the group ring - WOW!

Alex succesfully passed his American Temperament Testing Society test today. Mid-range scores through-out. (Aunt) Kristina helped us interpret this as appropriate to the breed.
This was his stance after the weird/aggressive stranger departed. Watchfu and attentive, but cool under pressure.

Alex swims at Lake Santee

 

Alex and I drove out to Lake Santee, where I lived about 20 years ago. Alex made a friend of young Robert and did a bit of swimming. Funny to watch him duck the waves. I realized he had never seen waves - but he LOVES water!

It was a beautiful weekend - to make it perfect, Alex got some pool time in! He would really like a BIG pool. Guess he is in the wrong family for that!

Last weekend, I went to visit the neighbors... 3 lots over, the street behind us. I walked out onto their deck and there was Alex - watching me. I had to use most of the zoom on my camera to get the shot this close! You would not see him at all if I used the regular no-zoom. ;-)
You can see how high up we are by the city shot. Can't get this view from my place, darn!

My first dog and my best trainer.
Carlos brought me into dogs, behavior and all the wonderful and caring dog-friends I have made in the past ten years. He will be greatly missed!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
